As the title suggests, this is my brief posting about miniature painting. I have found very quickly how cathartic mini painting is to drawing. It is very easy to take on a model that is already figured out and to basically "color in the lines". A skill I appreciate on mini painting, or known as hobbying, is that I can step away for a time and come back at it with ease. Unlike drawing, mini painting is a skill and hobby that is easy to come back to no matter how far you've been away from it. This is a hobby that is never running out of products, models and more. There is a never ending surplus of items to try and mess with. Since my time of getting into the hobby, I have amassed a plethora of Warhammer miniatures and various models to be on standby. Currently I am participating in a 40k Escalation League where we are charged with completing an army on a point-by-point basis. That means assembling, painting & basing the units of models in preparation for matches of that month. It is a 6 month event and so far I've done good on getting my Orks ready. Besides 40k, I have also found great fun in painting competitions and improving my skill set. I've entered in a few local events and so far have earned recognition and 2nd place titles. I am hoping to take classes to improve and attend Adepticon in the near future. |
Being able to work on some exotic models is also a plus. This model is from Artisan's Guild.
During a move, my wife and I decided to make gifts for each other. She made me some baked goods and I worked on a mini based off of her D&D character. This was the first time I sat down and really put hours into a model.
While I am still learning to play 40k, I am much more interested in just painting the miniatures than playing for sure. Orks seem to be the best match up with my play style. Not sure if that is a good thing or not! Luckily the folks at my FLGS are great teachers and leaders, so they are more than happy to show me the ropes.
Currently I am working on this pinup model from HeresyLabs of a Death Guard. I had fun painting a Plague Marine from a previous competition, so I am trying to push my skills and attempt to learn some new techniques like NMM (Non Metallic Metals) and more.
Anyway, I hope to do more posts soon! It has been a hot minute since I have shared anything here. Things have been busy creative-wise. Have a wonderful week.
